What Is A Marine Screw Pin Shackle Used For?

Marine screw pin shackle is specifically designed for rigging applications in marine environments. Its threaded pin allows for quick and easy connection and disconnection, making it highly convenient for picking and placing, the screw pin shackle is also suitable for where slings and other hardware need to be frequently changed. This marine shackle provides a flexible and efficient solution, enabling swift adjustments and adaptability in marine lifting and rigging tasks.

What is the correct way to rig a marine screw pin shackle?

The correct way to rig a marine screw pin shackle involves the following steps:

  • Choose the appropriate size and capacity of the shackle based on the intended load. Ensure it meets the necessary standards and specifications for the application.
  • Inspect the shackle for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion. Do not use a shackle that appears compromised in any way.
  • Position the screw pin shackle in a manner that ensures the load is evenly distributed across the bow (U-shaped part) of the shackle.
  • Align the holes in the bow of the shackle and the screw pin.
  • Insert the screw pin into the aligned holes, ensuring it is fully threaded into the ear of the shackle body. Rotate it by hand to achieve a minimum hand tightness.
  • Perform a visual inspection to ensure the shackle and pin are correctly aligned and that the threads are fully engaged.
  • Before lifting or moving the load, verify that the screw pin is securely tightened. If necessary, use an appropriate tool, such as a wrench, to tighten the screw pin further. Be careful not to overtighten and risk damaging the threads.
  • Once the screw pin is tightened, conduct a final inspection of the rigging setup to ensure the shackle and connection are secure.
  • Before lifting or moving the load, perform a test lift or apply a controlled load to confirm the stability and reliability of the shackle and rigging arrangement.
  • Regularly inspect the screw pin shackle and pin during use to monitor for any signs of loosening, wear, or damage. If any concerns arise, discontinue use and replace the shackle if necessary.
