About product

Galvanized wire rope is a type of steel wire rope that has undergone a galvanization process, specifically designed for marine environments. As a coated steel rope, coating the rope with a layer of zinc enhances its corrosion resistance and extends its lifespan in harsh marine conditions.

  • Provides corrosion resistance in marine and corrosive environments.
  • Maintains strength and load-bearing capacity.
  • Offers a cost-effective solution for users.
  • Different galvanization options available.
  • Hot-dip galvanized wire rope has a slightly black appearance, while electro-galvanized wire rope has a brighter zinc color.

Galvanized Wire Rope – Marine Coated Steel Rope

Galvanized wire rope, also known as galvanized cable, is available in two categories: cold galvanized wire rope and hot galvanized wire rope. The key difference between the two coated steel ropes lies in the galvanization process. Hot-dip galvanizing involves a physical thermal diffusion process where a coating is formed, starting with an iron-zinc compound and subsequently generating a pure zinc layer on the surface. The maximum zinc content in hot-dip galvanizing is 593g/m2. However, hot-dip galvanizing can reduce the mechanical properties of the steel wire. For applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance, electric galvanized steel wire twisting is used instead.

Hot-dip galvanizing immerses the steel wire in molten zinc at temperatures of 450-480 degrees Celsius. It has become the preferred choice for steel wire rope users due to its cost-effectiveness. The steel wire in hot-dip galvanized steel wire rope undergoes physical thermal diffusion, forming an iron-zinc compound and generating a pure zinc layer on the surface. The maximum zinc content in hot-dip galvanized steel wire rope is 593g/m2.

Galvanized Wire Rope: Hot-dip vs. Cold Galvanization

The essential difference between hot-dip galvanized cable and cold galvanized cable is the superior zinc layer in hot-dip galvanizing due to the presence of a zinc-iron alloy layer. The surface of hot-dip steel wire rope appears slightly black due to the presence of the hot-plated zinc-iron alloy. Electro galvanizing, on the other hand, does not undergo a chemical reaction, resulting in a natural, brighter zinc color. Typically, hot-dip galvanizing provides a thicker zinc layer and better corrosion resistance compared to electrogalvanizing, unless the zinc layer in cold galvanizing reaches a similar thickness.

Wire Rope Construction – Galvanized Wire Rope

  • 6X25Fi+FC: The 6X25Fi+FC coated steel rope consists of six strands with 25 individual wires in each strand, incorporating a fiber core (FC).  As a marine wire rope, it offers flexibility and is suitable for general marine applications.
  • 6X26WS+FC: Similar to the 6X25Fi+FC structure, this fiber core wire rope configuration includes six strands with 26 wires in each strand, it provides improved breaking strength and flexibility.
  • 6X29Fi+FC: The fiber core wire rope comprises six strands with 29 individual wires in each strand, it offers enhanced strength and flexibility, making it suitable for demanding marine applications.
  • 6X31WS+FC: With six strands and 31 wires in each strand, along with a fiber core (FC), this marine wire rope construction provides even higher breaking strength and improved resistance to abrasion and fatigue.
  • 6X36WS+FC: 6X36WS fiber core wire rope configuration consists of six strands and 36 wires in each strand, it shows excellent breaking strength and flexibility, making it suitable for heavy lifting and rigging applications.
  • 6X41WS+FC: With six strands and 41 wires in each strand, along with a fiber core (FC), this galvanized wire rope construction provides exceptional strength and durability. It is commonly used for demanding marine lifting operations.
  • 6X25Fi+IWR: This structure is similar to 6X25Fi+FC but includes an independent wire rope core (IWR) instead of a fiber core. The IWR provides additional strength and stability, making it suitable for heavy-duty marine applications.
  • 6X26WS+IWR: Similar to 6X26WS+FC, the steel wire rope configuration incorporates an independent wire rope core (IWR) for increased strength and load-bearing capabilities.
  • 6X29Fi+IWR: This structure combines six strands with 29 wires in each strand and an independent wire rope core (IWR) for enhanced strength and stability in challenging marine conditions.
  • 6X31WS+IWR: With six strands and 31 wires in each strand, along with an independent wire rope core (IWR), this coated steel rope offers excellent breaking strength and resistance to abrasion and fatigue.
  • 6X36WS+IWR: This marine wire rope configuration includes six strands and 36 wires in each strand, along with an independent wire rope core (IWR). It provides exceptional strength, flexibility, and durability for heavy lifting and rigging tasks in marine environments.
  • 6X41WS+IWR: With six strands and 41 wires in each strand, along with an independent wire rope core (IWR), this type of coated steel rope has maximum strength, and is specially designed for marine lifting applications.
